movies as inspiration: high society
~
DC has been hit with one of the biggest snowstorms on record. What is a girl to do to ensure she does not get cabin fever? My advice is to watch old movies and drink many, many glasses of champagne. I watched quite a few great movies (more to come on that  topic), but one of my favorites was High Society. Grace Kelly's final film before she became Her Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco. In High Society Ms. Kelly shines as a fashionable society swan. Here's my updated take on the movie as inspiration...

This gorgeous white cover-up becomes the lovely halter swimsuit below. Why does this not exist now?!

Hermès, though not a matching dress, would add a nice topper to any fashionable beachwear. I think this halter one piece from Bloomingdales is a modern take on the Grace Kelly original.

One of the most darling outfits that Ms. Kelly wears in High Society is a chic take on casual safari. The safari pant is so popular right now it was easy to find many suitable modern takes on this look:

Throw on a couple of bangle bracelets and the outfit is complete.

Other necessities. . .

1. the ultimate car (no updates necessary)

2. two dashing leading men in tuxes
3. and some classic champagne coupes to toast to a very chic life!

movies as inspiration: pillow talk
~

I have always adored old movies. Pillow talk is one of those movies that feels like a time capsule of the late 1950s with its dated views of sexuality and feminism- but I adore it none the less.  Here's my updated take on the movie as inspiration...

Having a landline might soon go the way of the party line but for now these adorable throwback phones make me want to curl up in my bed for long chats just like Ms. Day.

of course, just like Ms. Day I want to cozy up with my retro phone in some fantastic pajamas (how chic is her mandarin collar!)

sensible pima cotton flannel nightgown?

or this Natori blush pink  nightgown.

When it was time to go out Ms. Day always looked polished. I think the modern take on her white gown would make the Rock Hudson in your life swoon- no matter his sexual orientation.
