literary losses

I don't really deeply feel
that anyone needs an airtight reason for
quoting from the works of
writers he loves
but it's always nice, I'll grant you,
 if he has one.

literary losses
~
It has been a very sad week for those in the literary community with the loss of both J.D. Salinger and Howard Zinn. As I don't like to focus on the end of life, I thought it might be nice to post some fun that Mr. Salinger had in life. As much as I love Catcher in the Rye I do hope that it is never a movie .
here is another round up of the best of Mr. Salinger.

McQueen is king
~
How amazing is this Spring/Summer 2010 ad campaign for Mr. Alexander McQueen. Shot by British photographer Nick Knight with model Raquel Zimmermann. I'm dying over this. . .coincidently I would die trying to walk in those shoes ((props to Daphne Guinness )).

i'm still not over . . .  cat people
~

When one thinks of cat people they tend to have images of crazy ladies with stinky homes. But lately I feel like cat popularity has surged  thanks, in no small part, to The Catorialist a spoof on the famed photo blog, The Sartorialist .  And who can say no to a cute cat photo? Certainly not cat people (and hopefully not you- because more are below)

Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it.
Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.

on a rainy day like this
~
I only want to curl up in my bed to read a book, watch a movie, and relax. The only thing missing from a truly comfortable rainy day experience is a headboard. I'm dreaming of having a chic padded headboard. Here are some of the ones I've had my eye on...

lost and found
~
I lost my wallet. I'm not upset because I've lost my wallet three times this year (it's only January 15) and an unmentionable number of times last year. I really truly feel that I can change my ways if I get this fun and functional wallet from MoMA Store. The best part? A portion of the proceeds from the purchase of this iconic wallet are donated to HELP, USA.

best workout. . .barre none
~

I'm typing through the pain so I can tell you about the most sensational workout I've ever had- ever. Today I experienced the unique hybrid strength training program called Pure Barre.  The grueling workout combines pilates, weight lifting, and ballet into create an ab tightening, flab blasting hour long exercise routine. I did not make any New Years resolutions for 2010, but I may have found a way to finally accomplish that pesky "get fit" resolution I made so long ago.

hope this encourages you to join me at the (ballet) barre. Remember, the pain will subside but the 'barre' puns are endless.

chaipuccino
~
I love a good chai. I also love a heavy espresso buzz to help me get through the day. I've been scheming on how to combine the two.  On Friday I finally got the nerve to ask my barista to add a shot of espresso to my chai . . . Amazing.

Today I went to a local cafe, Tryst , and low and behold they had a chaipuccino on the menu and thus the new concoction had a name. It's my new favorite drink and I highly recommend adding it to your repertoire.

movies as inspiration: pillow talk
~

I have always adored old movies. Pillow talk is one of those movies that feels like a time capsule of the late 1950s with its dated views of sexuality and feminism- but I adore it none the less.  Here's my updated take on the movie as inspiration...

Having a landline might soon go the way of the party line but for now these adorable throwback phones make me want to curl up in my bed for long chats just like Ms. Day.

of course, just like Ms. Day I want to cozy up with my retro phone in some fantastic pajamas (how chic is her mandarin collar!)

or this Natori blush pink  nightgown.

When it was time to go out Ms. Day always looked polished. I think the modern take on her white gown would make the Rock Hudson in your life swoon- no matter his sexual orientation.
